WALKING AND EXPLORING

Manly offers so many wonderful opportunities for walking and exploring. Take an easy three minute stroll down to Fairy Bower by the sea, stop for a coffee and meander for another few minutes to our beautiful Shelly Beach for a sheltered swim in calm ocean waters. A ten minute walk from 101 Addison takes you to another local gem, and favourite with local families ... the not-so-touristy Little Manly Beach and Reserve. Grab a light bite to eat at the cafe and enjoy the harbour views. Follow the harbour eastward and you'll chance upon the secluded beauty of Spring Cove. And if you have a little more energy, march your way uphill for about 30 mins to North Head National Park and be rewarded with stunning views over Sydney Harbour.

There are many and varied walks with maps and general information always available. If you have half a day and some comfortable shoes, spend four hours, or longer if you want to make a day of it, walking from Manly to Spit Bridge - a delightful, medium grade walking track hugging the foreshores of the harbour. Pack a picnic lunch and stop for a swim at one of the many little beaches you'll find along the way and you’ll have experienced one of the best days out that Sydney has to offer. Or work up an appetite and grab fish and chips and a beer from the cafe at Clontarf which you’ll find at the end of the walk. Walk across the bridge to The Spit where there are regular buses to bring you back to Manly Wharf.

OTHER FEATURES

Manly has a popular art movie cinema, Art Gallery and Ocean World with nearby waterslide for the kids. There is an excellent library and a great little second-hand book shop called Desire. We have weekly craft markets and each third Saturday of the month there is a general market in the local school grounds. October hosts a great Jazz Festival... with a Food & Wine Festival in June, and surfing carnivals through the summer ... always something happening somewhere. Of course the many beaches and saltwater pools are always a favourite and a great place to relax and unwind. Collect some take-away food and sit by the ocean for a relaxing evening meal or enjoy the most wonderful choice of al fresco cafes and eateries, along with fine dining and popular bars. Too many to mention.

Water activities such as canoeing, parasailing and sailing are available on the harbour and there are bikes and surfboards for hire locally.

TAKE A FERRY TO THE CITY

Manly ferries are always a favourite with visitors and locals alike. Just 30 minutes and a most memorable harbour crossing will have you in the city centre with all it’s wonders. You will pass by our well-loved Opera House; a stunning and vibrant place to visit. You might like to browse the Opera House website and book a special night. Maybe dine overlooking the harbour, with ferries coming and going to the majestic backdrop of the Sydney Harbour Bridge ... a truly magical place to be as the sun goes down. Take the late ferry home to Manly.
